Update From Michelle

“Rya” first came into the Center in July. She told her Advocate that if she had a positive pregnancy test, she intended to abort the pregnancy. She stated that the father of the baby wanted her to abort and even though her mom didn’t know about the pregnancy, she would want her to abort as well. Rya’s mom adopted her and Rya was thankful.

But Rya’s friend, Nicole, who came with her to the appointment told her that she was adopted but wished her mom would have aborted her!

Rya’s mom adopted her and Rya was thankful. But Rya’s friend, Nicole, who came with her to the appointment told her that she was adopted but wished her mom would have aborted her!

During the Gospel presentation she told her Advocate that she was angry with God because her father died when she was 14. Her Advocate reassured her that God loved her.

Her test was positive and the ultrasound showed a very early pregnancy 5 week and 3 days gestation. Rya left her appointment undecided as to the outcome of her pregnancy but agreed to return for a repeat ultrasound in two weeks.

Rachel, our Follow up Coordinator, called her a couple of days later and Rya had talked to her mom and boyfriend. Rya’s mom indicated that she would support her if she carried to term or had an abortion; her boyfriend still wanted her to have an abortion. Rachel confirmed that she was planning to come in for a second ultrasound.

When Rya arrived she said she was experiencing a lot of morning sickness and the she felt numb—hadn’t dealt with the pregnancy—it hadn’t sunk in that she was really pregnant. She said she would not keep the child and was deciding between making an adoption plan and having an abortion. She also had an appointment scheduled with her OB doctor.

During the second ultrasound, Rya was smiling and laughed when her baby moved and when she held the fetal baby models. The father of the baby was there as well and showed no emotion. He left the Center to wait outside for her and she told her advocate, “He doesn’t want to care right now.”

Sue, Director of Client Programs, met with her after the ultrasound and gave her an adoption packet to take home and read through. Another ultrasound appointment was scheduled because Rya had not made a final decision between adoption and abortion.

When Rachel called her to follow up, she said she was not doing well at all! She had broken up with her boyfriend who had been living with her and her mom. And her mom told her to either have an abortion or move out! Rya said she had decided to have an abortion (adoption was no longer an option) and had scheduled an abortion appointment for August 31st. She had called to schedule the appointment after she broke up with her boyfriend because she was so upset. However, she agreed to come to the Center for her next ultrasound appointment.

Rya came in August 29th and she said she was feeling better, but was still having waves of nausea. Her mom still wanted her to abort but Rya said that she didn’t intend to keep her abortion
appointment on August 31st. Rya was adopted through Child Saving Institute and wanted to place her baby through them as well. The father of the baby had agreed to the adoption.

The ultrasound showed a beautiful, active baby 10 weeks and 5 days gestation to be born in March 2012.  Rya stated that her “whole family still thinks abortion would be best. So that makes me feel bad, but I feel a peace about adoption.”

Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children.  Titus 2:3-4

Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled. In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.  Titus 2:6-8
